Supported by Highbury Auction |
10% of revenues generated from the Highbury Heritage box-set auction will be donated to The David Rocastle Trust, the Arsenal Charity of the Season for 2005/06. The David Rocastle Trust is an initiative founded in memory of the Arsenal legend affectionately known as ‘Rocky’, who lost his battle to cancer in 2001 at the age of just 33. Following consultation with Arsenal supporters and overwhelming support for the initiative, The David Rocastle Trust was recently founded, as a result of joint efforts between David’s former agent and best friend, Jerome Anderson, Arsenal Football Club and through consultation with David’s family. The charity has been established to assist David’s family, support community projects in ‘Rocky’s’ name and assist other registered charities to help support causes closely linked to David Rocastle.
The David Rocastle Trust takes over as Arsenal’s nominated charity from ChildLine which was the Club’s inaugural Charity of the Season in 2003/04. After a successful first year, the Club continued its partnership for a second successful season, which proved to be equally beneficial. Over the two year period, Arsenal’s fundraising activities raised nearly £200,000 for the children’s charity and generated huge awareness for ChildLine’s many initiatives.
To raise funds and awareness for The David Rocastle Trust the Club will be embarking upon many initiatives including a dedicated matchday to the ex-Arsenal and England player, the matchday programme’s noticeboard donations will be channelled to the Trust and players will lend their personal support to the charity through fund and awareness raising exercises, vital to a new charity. Funds raised from other specific lots during the various Highbury Auctions will be donated to the Trust.
